The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme "National Programme on High Efficiency Solar PV Modules" is run by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to build integrated solar PV module manufacturing in India. The two tranches together have an outlay of Rs. 24,000 crore.
Status: both tranches awarded Tranche I (outlay Rs. 4,500 crore): IREDA issued letters of award in November and December 2021 to three bidders for 8,737 MW of fully integrated module manufacturing. Tranche II (outlay Rs. 19,500 crore): SECI issued letters of award in April 2023 to 11 bidders for 39,600 MW of fully or partially integrated module manufacturing. No further tranche has been announced.
How the incentive works Manufacturers were selected through a transparent competitive bidding process, not an open application form. A selected manufacturer gets the PLI on an annual basis on the manufacture and sale of high-efficiency solar PV modules for 5 years from the actual date of commissioning or the scheduled commissioning date, whichever is earlier.
Who it is for Large solar PV manufacturers setting up integrated module, cell, wafer or polysilicon capacity in India. Watch the MNRE PLI page for any new tranche.
