About This Scheme
Status: recurring. BIRAC's flagship early-stage grant scheme to stimulate commercialisation of research discoveries in biotechnology by bridging the gap between discovery/invention and validated proof of concept. Delivered through a network of designated BIG Partners (incubators) who provide mentoring, monitoring, networking and business development support alongside milestone-based fund disbursement.
Eligibility Criteria
- Scientist entrepreneurs from research institutes, academia and startups
- Eligible stage: idea
- Eligible stage: pre seed
- Applicant must be an incubatee or have a registered company with a functional R&D laboratory
- Applicant must be an Indian citizen (not OCI/PIO)
Benefits
- Grant-in-aid of up to Rs 50 lakh over 18 months for scientist entrepreneurs/biotech startups to translate innovative ideas into proof of concept, delivered via BIG Partner incubators.
- Calls typically open twice a year (around January 1 and July 1) for approximately 45 days.
