Eligibility Criteria for Graduate Student Parental Leave Bursary

  • Applicants must: Be a full-time or part-time graduate student at the university with no outstanding fees.
  • Have been registered for at least one academic term before the parental leave begins.
  • Be receiving financial support such as a Teaching Assistantship (TA), Research Assistantship (RA), scholarship, bursary, or award.
  • Be taking an approved parental leave, including adoption leave.
  • Not undertake employment in any capacity within the University of Waterloo during the bursary term.

Value of Graduate Student Parental Leave Bursary

  • The bursary provides funding of up to $8,000: Up to $5,000 for the first academic term. Up to $3,000 for the second academic term.

  • Attach all required supporting documentation.
  • Submit the completed application package to Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA).
