The prize was established in 2008 and is financed by a donation from the family of the late Richard Paul Anschutz, who was Professor of Philosophy from 1956-1961. The purpose of the Prize is to encourage study in political philosophy at the University of Auckland.

Eligibility for Richard Anschutz Prize for Stage I Ethics and Political Philosophy

• The Prize will be awarded to the student who achieves the highest mark in Stage I Ethics and Philosophy courses.
• As a minimum standard, the student must have achieved an A- grade.
• In the event of a tie, the prize will be awarded to the student who achieved the highest mark in the examination.
