Applicants must

• Be starting or currently undertaking a PhD at Auckland University of Technology (AUT)
• Be conducting doctoral research focused on Southeast Asia and its people

Undertake research related to one or more of the following countries

• Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, or Viet Nam
• Have a research topic especially (but not exclusively) related to history, culture, or society of Southeast Asia
• Meet all eligibility requirements outlined in the official Scholarship Regulations
• Demonstrate how their research advances knowledge and understanding of Southeast Asia and contributes to New Zealand’s interests in the region
