Eligibility Criteria for the Fellowship

Degree Requirements: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree awarded between January 1, 2025, and the application deadline August 4, 2026. ABD (All But Dissertation) applicants may apply if they are expected to have completed their dissertation (including defense and filing) by June 15, 2027, and have already completed a substantial portion of the dissertation (at least 50%).

Supporting Documentation for Ph.D. Holders

Ph.D. holders must provide proof of completion of all requirements for the degree, which can include a Ph.D. certificate, official transcript, or a degree confirmation letter from their graduate school or registrar.

Supporting Documentation for ABD Applicants

  • ABD applicants must upload a letter from their Department Chair or Director of Graduate Studies confirming "progress to degree" as part of their online application.
  • If awarded the fellowship, ABD applicants must submit a formal document from their institution’s Registrar or Dean by June 15, 2027, confirming the completion of their degree.

Additional Eligibility Restrictions

  • Applicants who have previously applied to the Princeton Society of Fellows cannot reapply.
  • Candidates with degrees in Education (Ed.D. or Ph.D.), Jurisprudence, or DMA are not eligible.
